About Mark O’Keefe and Fired UP After 50

Fired UP after 50 helps mid-life professionals take charge of their futures to make the second half of their lives happier, healthier and wealthier.

We offer premium, how-to content from an award-winning journalist and, for those who want to go deeper, one-on-one and group coaching.

The larger vision is to build a global community of connected encouragers identifying and leveraging their unique, God-given gifts to enrich the world in the prime of their lives, their 50s!

Many of us have had setbacks. Working together, we can turn them into springboards of opportunity.

That’s what happened to me. When I (Mark O’Keefe) was fired at age 50 during an economic downturn, unable to get an interview, much less a job, I thought it might be the end of my communications career.

I was wrong. This “inflection point” — when everything changes irrevocably — pushed me to new paths I never would have considered.

Pain prodded me to new roads of prosperity. It got my attention. It remade my career and my life and got fired up after 50s, making me happier, healthier and wealthier than I was in my 40s, 30s and 20s.

A Bible verse that guides this endeavor is Job 42:12.

Most people remember Job as the guy who lost it all for no apparent reason. We’re talking marauding invaders killing his livestock, servants and children. We’re talking skin sores. We’re talking a wife who tells him to give up and die.

They forget what happens in the last chapter. It came as a surprise to me.

“The LORD blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning.”

The same can be true for you. As a professional coach and communicator, I’m here to help you adjust your game plan to win the second half of your life.
Why should you work with me?

I’m a man of faith. If that doesn’t appeal to you, that’s OK. But that’s who I am.

An executive with access to experienced coaching his organization provides for free asked me why he should pay me for my services.

I was on the spot. I could feel my palms sweat a little.

I could have pointed out I’m a trained coach who attended the life-changing Leadership Coaching for Organizational Performance (LCOP) program at American University.

I could have talked about the Pulitzer Prize nominations, the big corner office I had a few blocks from the White House as an editor-in-chief of a news service.

Instead, I said something like:

“I’m not just a coach who guides you. I’m a Christian who believes God has a unique plan for you to change the world like no one else can.”

His response: “Sounds good to me. When do we start?”
